Stan Anderson
Stan Anderson, a native of Palatine, Ill., and a 17-year college coaching veteran, begins his first season as an assistant men's soccer coach with the Wisconsin men's soccer program. Anderson comes to Madison after spending last season as an assistant coach at Loyola and the previous six seasons as associate head coach at Marquette University, where he guided the Golden Eagles to the 2011 BIG EAST regular-season championship.
Named one of the top assistant coaches in the nation by College Soccer News in 2010, Anderson focused on developing the goalkeepers at Marquette, but he also was instrumental in a number of community service initiatives, including the Soccer Mom Camp, which promoted soccer among women and raised $5,000 for breast cancer awareness.
Anderson spent 10 seasons on the men's soccer staff at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee before moving across town to Marquette. In his 10 seasons at Milwaukee, Anderson helped the Panthers develop into a perennial contender in the Horizon League as they compiled an impressive 136-63-17 overall record, earning five consecutive NCAA Tournament berths during that run. In four of those five NCAA appearances, Milwaukee advanced to the second round. During a dominant run from 2001-05, Anderson helped the Panthers rack up a staggering 30-3-2 record in Horizon League action.
Known for being one of the top goalkeeper coaches in the country, Anderson helped mold Grant Fernstrum into the top goalkeeper in the nation in 2005, at least statistically speaking, as he posted a 0.466 goals-against average, the best mark in NCAA Division I.
From 1993-95, Anderson served as the boys assistant varsity soccer coach at Fremd High School in Palatine, Ill., and helped lead the team to the state championship match in 1993.
A graduate of Palatine High School, where he is also a member of the school's Hall of Fame, Anderson enjoyed a standout soccer career at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside where he was an All-American. Following his collegiate playing days, he spent one season playing professionally for the Dayton Dynamo of the National Professional Soccer League.
